During a press conference in Sliema, AD presented the main themes of its manifesto for the European Parliament Election.

Secretary General Ralph Cassar said that this election is an opportunity for Maltese voters to show that they want politicians who will work for a Europe closer to citizens, and politicians who really work iin favour of the quality of life of all Maltese and Gozitans. He said that AD works on issues which make a real difference in the lifes of citizens, whereas the other parties are wasting time in petty squabbles and tit-for-tat politics, without even bothering to propose solutions and tackle important issues.

AD candidates Carmel Cacopardo and Arnold Cassola explained the ten themes of the manifesto.

Deputy Chairperson Carmel Cacopardo explained that AD with the Green Group in the European Parliament will work towards a more accountable European Commission and European Central Bank together with the creation of a Commissioner for Smaller Member States.

"We will work towards a greater voice for citizens through the use of referenda on a local and European level. We will work towards the use of cleaner and renewable sources of energy in Malta and Gozo together with a more efficient, accessible and subsidized public transport system.

"We insist on a social Europe and will work towards resurrecting Eco-Gozo as a means of job creation, lending a helping hand to small and medium sized enterprises, the strengthening of the cooperative model and an economy based on solidarity rather than austerity. Greens are at the forefront of defending digital rights and we will continue working towards the respect of privacy and personal information of Maltese, Gozitan and EU citizens."

AD Chairperson Prof. Arnold Cassola explained that on immigration AD will work against human trafficking and towards the removal of the Dublin II Convention to make responsibility sharing between all European countries a reality.

"We will work towards the upholding of diversity and against discrimination on the basis of gender, sexual orientation, race and disability, and in favour of equal representation of women in local and EU institutions through affirmative action.

"We will work towards the setting up of a World Environment Organization, and a waste management strategy that works. We will work against the misappropriation of land, especially on the Maltese coast and countryside, and towards the enforcement of EU directives on the use of water.

"We will work to make the Mediterranean region more protected through a comprehensive strategy that develops the region economically, socially and ecologically."

Waqt konferenza stampa f'tas-Sliema AD ippreżentat it-temi prinċipali tal-manifest għall-elezzjoni tal-Parlament Ewropew.

Ralph Cassar, Segretarju Generali ta' AD, qal li din l-elezzjoni tagħti ċ-ċans lill-Maltin biex juru li jridu politiċi li jaħdmu favur Malta u Ewropa viċin in-nies, għal Ewropa aktar soċjali u favur kwalita' ta' ħajja aħjar għaċ-ċittadini kollha Ewropej, inlkużi l-Maltin. Qal li AD qed tiffoka fuq temi li jagħmlu differenza fil-ħajja tan-nies filwaqt li l-partiti l-oħra aktar moħħhom jinfexxu fil-battibekki partiġġjani tas-soltu milli jipproponu soluzzjonijiet għat-temi li jolqtu lin-nies.

Il-kandidati ta' AD Carmel Cacopardo Arnold Cassola spjegaw l-għaxar temi tal-manifest.

Id-Deputat Chairpeson ta' Alternattiva Demokratika, Carmel Cacopardo, qal li l-AD fil-Parlament Ewropew taħdem biex tqarreb l-istituzzjonijiet Ewropej lejn iċ-ċittadin billi taħdem favur Kummissjoni Ewropea u Bank Ċentrali Ewropew iktar kontabbli kif ukoll il-ħolqien ta’ Kummissarju għall-Pajjiżi ż-Żgħar.

AD tahdem favur iktar għażla permezz ta’ referenda fuq skala lokali u Ewropea. L-Enerġija alternattiva hija l-pern tal-politika energetika ta' AD u l-Grupp tal-Ħodor fil-Parlament Ewropew. Enerġija nadifa u rinovabbli f’Malta u sistema ta’ trasport pubbliku effiċjenti, aċċessibbli u sussidjata huma ħtiega prijoritarja. Alternattiva temmen fil-kuncett ta' xogħol dinjituż u għalhekk taħdem favur l-irxuxtar ta’ EkoGħawdex bħala mezz għall-ħolqien tax-xogħol, favur għajnuna lil kumpaniji żgħar u medji, it-tisħiħ tal-mudell koperattiv u mudell ekonomiku Ewropew ta’ solidarjetà u mhux awsterità. Rigward id-Drittijiet Diġitali, AD taħdem favur ir-rispett tal-privatezza u tal-informazzjoni personali taċ-ċittadini Maltin u Għawdxin u dawk fl-Unjoni Ewropea kollha.

Iċ-Chairperson ta' Alternattiva Demokratika, il-Prof. Arnold Cassola, sostna li politika serja dwar l-Immigrazzjoni teħtieg ħidma kontra t-traffikar tal-persuni u favur it-tneħħija tar-regoli tal-Konvenzjoni ta’ Dublin biex ir-responsabbiltà tinqasam bejn il-pajjiżi Ewropej kollha u r-refugjati jkunu jistgħu jimxu minn Malta għal pajjiżi ohra.

Drittijiet ta'veru jfissru ħidma favur il-pluraliżmu u kontra d-diskriminazzjoni speċjalment fuq bażi ta’ sess, orjentazzjoni sesswali, razza u diżabilità, u favur rappreżentanza ugwali tan-nisa permezz ta’ azzjoni affermattiva fl-istituzzjonijiet lokali u Ewropej.

AD fil-Parlament Ewropew taħdem favur it-twaqqif ta’ Organizzazzjoni Dinjija tal-Ambjent, immaniġġjar aħjar tal-iskart u l-użu bil-għaqal tal-ilma u tal-art f’Malta. Naħdmu kontra t-teħid illegali tal-kosta u l-kampanja f’Malta u favur l-infurzar ta’ veru tad-direttivi tal-UE dwar l-ilma.

Nisħqu fuq strateġija għaċ-Ċentru tal-Mediterran, li permezz tagħha naħdmu biex dan ir-reġjun jitħares permezz ta’ strateġija li biha l-Mediterran jistgħana ekonomikament, soċjalment u ekoloġikament biex minn dan tgawdi Malta wkoll.
