Censorship u-turn sounds like pre-electoral gimmick

Commenting on the Government's decision to change censorship laws and to
have a consultation process on this, AD said that whilst it welcomes
updating of such legislation, it believes that this sudden shift in policy
of the Nationalist party sounds like a pre-electoral gimmick.

Michael Briguglio, AD Chairperson said: "It is positive to note that
pressure from AD, NGOs like the Front Against Censorship, Realta' and
various artists had an effect on the Government with respect to censorship
legislation. Yet, just as was the case with pre-electoral promises on
various other issues before previous general elections, AD believes that
this is nothing more than a gimmick. Given that AD is the progressive party
in Malta, our election in parliament will mean that there is a real
parliamentary voice for updating of censorship laws. AD is also amazed by
Labour's conspicuous silence on the need to update Malta's archaic
censorship laws".
