Alternattiva Demokratika - The Green Party calls upon Parliamentary Secretary for Rural Affairs and Animal rights Roderick Galdes to reverse the decision allowing autumn bird trapping. "Alternattiva Demokratika condemns the re introduction of bird trapping for seven finch species plus through the application of a derogation. Instead of promoting nature appreciation and conservation through educational programmes and activities such as bird watching, the authorities are approving the trapping of wild birds including seven species of finches, song thrushes and golden plovers destined to spend the rest of their life confined to smalll cages," said Simon Galea spokesperson Animal Welfare & Agriculture.

Simon Galea concluded: "Apart from the animal welfare aspect, allowing bird trapping is an unsustainable practice especially since it is not linked to any breeding programme. Throughout the recent past years, enforcement has failed to address the rampant illegal bird trapping let alone respecting conditions related to such a derogation including the trapping of birds on a selective basis, in small numbers and under strict supervision. Finally, this runs counter to the Accession Treaty Agreement where it was agreed that trapping will be phased out by 2009."

Alternattiva Demokratika - The Green Party tħeġġeġ lis-Segretarju Parlamentari għall-Affarijiet Rurali u Drittijiet tal-Annimali Roderick Galdes biex ireġġa lura d-deċiżjoni li tippermetti l-insib fil-ħarifa. "Alternattiva Demokratika tikkundanna l-fatt li reġa ġie introdott l-insib tas-seba' speċi ta' sponsuni permezz ta' applikazzjoni ta' deroga. Minflok jippromwovu l-apprezzament u l-konservazzjoni tan-natura permezz ta' programmi edukattivi u attivitajiet edukattivi bħal bird watching, l-awtoritajiet qegħdin japprovaw l-insib ta' għasafar selvaġġi fosthom seba' speċi ta' sponsuni u u pluviera li jispiċċaw iqattgħu ħajjithom kollha ġo gaġeġ ċkejkna," qal Simon Galea, il-kelliem dwar il-ħarsien tal-annimali u l-agrikotura.

Simon Galea kkonkluda: "Apparti mill-aspett tal-ħarsien tal-annimali, permess biex jitħalla jsir l-insib huwa prattika insostenibbli speċjalment la mhux marbut ma xi programm ta' tgħammir. Matul dawn l-aħħar snin, proċessi ta' infurzar ma rnexxilhomx jindirizzaw l-insib illegali li jsir bl-addoċċ aħseb u ara kemm ser jiġu rispettati l-kundizzjonijiet marbuta ma' din id-deroga, fosthom li l-insib isir fuq bazi selettiva, f'numri żgħar u taħt superviżjoni stretta. Barra minn hekk dan imur kontra t-trattat ta' ftehim li sar mal-Unjoni Ewropea meta sirna membri tagħha li l-insib jispiċċa sal-2009."
